Privacy Policy


X1 Discovery, Inc. ("X1") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy informs you about our privacy practices and the way in which we knowingly collection, use, and disclosure of Information collected via the website www.X1.com (the "Site") and from the X1 software products available from the Site (the "Software Products"). Your Information is used and shared only in the manner described in this Policy.


"Personal Information" means information about you that is personally identifiable, such as your name, address, email address, or phone number, and that is not otherwise publicly available.

"Non-Personal Information" means information that does not personally identify you and cannot be used to contact you or identify you (for example, information about your computer configuration, Software/Site usage, crash data, etc.)

"Information" means both Personal Information and Non-Personal Information.

Information Collected

We collect and store Non-Personal Information, such as visitor traffic, page his, site referral information, browsing patterns, technical information (e.g., browser type and version, downloads, and operating system), and general Site use information through typical Internet protocols and logging.

We also collect Personal Information via the Site, but only with your knowledge (such as filling out a submission form, email field or shopping cart). Several types of Site use can require that you submit Personal Information to us (for example, registering with the Site, downloading or purchasing a Software Product, or utilizing the feedback function on the Site). This Personal Information may include your name, email address, telephone number, address, and credit card information.

The Site may utilize "Cookies." Cookies are small files that your web browser places on your hard drive to assign an identification code to your computer and to associate with Information collected and stored during your use of the Site. We do not and cannot use Cookies to retrieve individual Personal Information about you from your computer. Cookies do not contain any credit card information. The Cookie technology we use cannot obtain information from your hard drive or pass on a computer virus. If you choose to reject the Cookies used by our Site, which you may, it is possible that some areas of the Site may not function properly or may not be accessible.

Use of Information

We use Non-Personal Information to better understand the use of the Site, improve and revise the Site based on usage, and for customer support purposes. We also use Non-Personal Information to track Software Product interest.

To the extent you have provided Personal Information to us, we may associate that Personal Information with collected Non-Personal Information and use such associated Information to improve and/or customize the Site, and to communicate with you regarding the Software Products, updates, revisions, and other promotional materials and product news that may be of interest to you. To unsubscribe from our mailing list(s), please follow the directions set forth within the promotional or other materials you receive from us or email mailto:[email protected].

We use Personal Information to confirm Software Product order(s) or as necessary to complete a transaction for you, as well as for customer support purposes.

Disclosure of Information

We may share your Personal Information with our trusted business partners, including those who may offer services that complement those provided by us and who assist us in providing services on this web site. We may also disclose Information to third parties who assist us in providing the Site to you. For example, we may engage third parties to make improvements on our Site, to offer new products, to provide e-mail and other marketing support, and to allow us to customize your experience on the Site. We also engage a third party company to validate and process credit card payments. They have access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but they may not use it for other purposes. We do not otherwise disclose Personal Information to third parties, except when we believe release is necessary to comply with the law enforcement or in response to a search warrant, subpoena or other legal process.

International Customer should note that the database of Personal Information is retained by X1 in the United States. In addition, the information may be shared with a third party provide, to support services for us as described in the paragraph above, whose servers may be located in or outside the United States.

Credit Card Security

Providing you with a secure ordering experience is a high priority. When you submit an order to the Site, we encrypt your order information by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software, when it is transmitted to X1 and for credit card processing. Encryption is a process by which we use software to scramble information in transit.

The Site is also registered with site identification authorities to enable your browser to confirm X1's identity before any transmission is sent. The identity of our site is automatically confirmed behind the scenes prior to the transmission of any customer information requested to complete an online order so that your data reaches your intended target.

When confirming an order to you by email, we reveal only the last four digits of your credit card numbers. Of course, we transmit the entire credit card number to the appropriate credit card company during order processing.

X1 Desktop Software

In addition to usage of the Site, when you download and use the X1 Desktop Software (also called the Professional Client, the "Software"), the Software is designed to collect general usage information from you, including the types of searches, the date your searches are performed, the number of searches you make, crash and bug data, system configuration data, application configuration data, and other anonymous usage data. The contents of this file can be reviewed by you by opening the XDS usage log file (located in your index directory).

This Non-Personal Information is transmitted to X1 from time to time. Unique build/installation ID numbers and/or cookies may be relayed to X1 in this process. Specific searches and resulting data will not be collected, stored, or transmitted.

The Software will also periodically contact an X1 server to check for updates; unique build/installation ID numbers and/or cookies may be relayed to X1 in this process. You may disable this function at any time (under "Tools" – "Options" in the user interface).

No Personal Information will be collected, stored, or transmitted by the Software, but the Non-Personal Information collected by the Software may be associated with your Personal Information stored by X1. We use this Non-Personal Information to better understand the use of the Software Products, to improve and revise the Software Products, and for customer support purposes.


These general provisions apply to both the Site and the Software.

Questionnaires and Surveys

From time to time, we may ask you to complete questionnaires or surveys, which we use to obtain additional demographic information about our users, to measure and improve the quality of our products and services and to better assess your interests and needs. If we ask you to complete a survey or questionnaire, we will explain how we intend to use the information that you provide to us. You always have the option of not responding to any questionnaire or survey.

Aggregated General Information

We may share aggregated general information, which does not contain any Personal Information, about the Software Products with our business partners or the general public. For example, we may share data regarding the amount of Software Product usage, the number and types of searches executed by the Software Products, and similar aggregated usage information with potential corporate partners or others.

Linked Internet Web Sites

The Site and our Software Products may include hyperlinks or data that can take you to a third party website, document, file, or other materials. These third party materials will contain their own, different privacy provisions. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any company before submitting your personal information. We are not responsible for the collection, use, or disclosure of information collected through these web sites, and we expressly disclaim any and all liability related to such collection, use, or disclosure.

Sale of Assets

In the event that another company acquires all or substantially all of the assets related to the Software Products or other business of X1, we reserve the right to include Information among the assets transferred to the acquiring company.


Our Site and Software Products are not directed towards children 13 years of age or under and we do not knowingly collect any information from children 13 years of age or under through the Site or via the Software Products.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

X1 may change this Policy at any time by posting a revised policy on the X1 Site.
