IBM Enterprise Search Technology Enables Unified Desktop and Enterprise Search with X1 Technologies Desktop Search Solution

Armonk, NY – August 25, 2005IBM today announced a new integrated enterprise search solution with X1 Technologies, a provider of desktop search solutions, which will provide a single interface for both desktop and enterprise-wide searches using IBM's enterprise search technology.

Going far beyond simple searches based on key words or page rankings, this integration will provide IBM WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition customers the ability to search and retrieve various types of content and data located on their personal computer and throughout their organization using the X1 desktop search solution.

"We're always looking for a way to enable our users to manage their increasingly large amounts of data, whether it's stored in Lotus Notes email messages and attachments, files or enterprise applications running on our IBM servers," said Michael Hecht, executive director of IT for Taro Pharmaceuticals USA. "Leveraging this unified search offering from IBM and X1 Technologies would increase employee productivity by reducing time spent searching versus being able to act on the information."

This software enables users to access nearly 400 different types of documents and data file formats and provide the ability to search IBM Lotus Notes and Microsoft Outlook email messages and attachments.

"IBM is working to help unify enterprise and desktop search to enable knowledge workers to find all the information they need more efficiently," said Nelson Mattos, IBM distinguished engineer and vice president strategy, WebSphere Information Integration Solutions. "WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition is the first mainstream, enterprise-scale solution that enables users to search based on concepts and facts, not just keywords, to find the exact information they are looking for. Using the X1 desktop search solution, customers have a new tool for finding information on demand, whether it is stored on the desktop or scattered across the enterprise."

WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition provides highly relevant search over large volumes of information distributed throughout the enterprise, stored in a wide variety of repositories such as in databases and content management systems. The solution also allows users to access WebSphere Information Integrator from the desktop to both search and act upon information accessed from the X1 desktop search solution. For example, content from a range of applications such as document management systems, databases or content management systems can be invoked, changed or deleted directly within the X1 search results window, saving time and enhancing the productivity of business users.

"X1 Technologies is focused on delivering solutions that benefit the business user as well as IT managers to help them enhance productivity and leverage their existing investments in enterprise applications," said Josh Jacobs, president of X1 Technologies. "Our desktop search solution working with IBM's leading enterprise search platform will provide the best of both search infrastructure and user experience."

The WebSphere Information Integrator OmniFind Edition integration with the X1 desktop search solution will be available from IBM and X1 Technologies in September 2005.
